Best pocket-sized spray for walk to the stadium?

My coworker and I are heading to a Brewers game soon. Obviously, you can't bring any defensive tools into the stadium itself but I'm thinking about the walk through the parking lots and downtown afterward.

I'm considering a small, keychain-sized pepper spray for peace of mind. For those of you who have experience with them, are they actually effective enough to be worth carrying or are they more of a gimmick?

Never been sprayed by one, I'm OK with that. Anything is better than nothing. We sold a lot of the small ones when I was working at Fleet Farm.
