They are old enough to fight and die for their country, but not carry. State by state they are looking at trying to ban gun carry under 21. So, step by step they can ban guns and no one is looking. We have to be careful with this in WI depending on what happens with the upcoming elections. Now in Maryland they are trying from a different direction.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Do young adults under 21 years of age enjoy ALL rights enumerated in the Constitution? The answer depends on which jurisdiction you live in, and any equivalence only ever centers around one right in particular, the Second Amendment.

Despite the fact that young adults are barred from expressing any other right, some courts continue to hold that they can be prohibited from keeping and bearing arms, as Maryland’s Appellate Court did in its July 2 ruling in Maryland v. Fields.

In Oregon there is a new item up for vote that would outlaw our favorite sports due to them causing "animal cruelty".

Initiative Petition 28 (the "PEACE Act") would remove legal exemptions protecting hunting, fishing, trapping, and farming from Oregon's animal abuse statutes — turning nearly one million Oregonians into criminals.

This same discussion came up decades ago, right after 18 year olds were extended the privilege to vote and legally become adults at the age of 18. At that time the extension of the second amendment rights to handgun ownership was denied primarily because at the age of 18, while legally adults, many are still in high school and the thought was that nobody wanted 18 year old's, still in school packing. It happens enough these days when it is still illegal and I would hate to think about some of the 18 year old adults we have in schools today there with hidden handguns. We still prohibit 18 year olds from legally consuming alcoholic beverages, so why should we prohibit alcohol, yet allow handguns?

Now I am sure that some of you are wondering if I consumed alcoholic beverages before I was 21. In answer to your question, yes I did. But not until I was in another country where people were shooting at me with the intent to kill. Age and alcohol consumption did not really enter into anything. For that part, I was under 21 and carrying both M14 and M16 rifles and 1911 pistols to defend myself and others from those trying to kill us. After getting shot, earning a purple heart when barely 20 I came back to the states where once again the consumption of alcohol and the purchase and carrying of handguns was once again illegal. I turned 21 five months after I was released from Fitzsimmons and at my new duty station, Fort Rucker, Alabama, where I could now legally drink on post, but not where I had bought property and was living off post in Dale County Alabama, which was a dry county at the time. For the record, I am still in favor of 21 for both the ability to purchase and carry handguns as well as drink alcoholic beverages. Let the comments begin.
