Nobody is paying attention to you

Before I started carrying, I assumed people would notice. I thought it would be obvious or that someone would say something but after a full month, I realized nobody is really paying attention. Most people are focused on their phones or their own lives. It is not nearly as noticeable as you think.

I think many are very concerned about printing or exposing the weapon in any way. And, I think many CCW's are their own worst critic. You know where it is so you are always looking there. Like with cars... you buy a new one and you think yours is the only one around. Until you go for a drive and it seems they are bumper to bumper. They were there all along, you just weren't focusing or noticing.

I carry IWB so only the grip is above the belt. Once while shooting with a friend I took off my cover shirt due to the heat. We headed into town to pick a couple of things up and went into a few stores without putting the shirt back on. after returning to the valley my buddy says "oh wow you went into town with your gun showing, and no one noticed.
I don't recommend doing this ,it was done by mistake. A good belt and a good holster and sometimes I forget it's on my side.
If anyone notices my bet would be its another person who carries.

Around here, it would depend on where you were going. There are places where it would probably go un-noticed or un-cared about. Then there are other places, mostly in Madison where if noticed there would be instant freak out and subsequent panic and the call to the cops.

I unfortunately live in a liberal county in an otherwise conservative state. It's a few large cities here in Wisconsin that have enough liberal idiots that keep the state showing up as liberal, unless the rest of the state gets riled up enough to come out and take the time to vote to put the wackos in their place. Now, if I have offended anyone out there be assured it was purely intentional and might happen again.

I went with the grandkids up to the Madison zoo and deep caried out of caution. Not being sure of if folks would freak out in that area I thought it best to both carry and have it well out of sight. I didn't see any no carry zone signs and nothing was noted on their website, so there is that.

While I am not 100% sure, but if someone noticed the chances were that there would have been a pistols drawn confrontation by the Madison Gendarmes with you on the ground and maybe even tased. It's a situation where there are kids as well as animals. In a city like Madison the usual reaction is over reaction. I wouldn't stop carrying, like you did, just make sure that there is no way it could be noticed unless there was a reason for it to be noticed.

Good on you. You can never assume any place is safe anymore. You had family to care for, and the bad guys have no problems with hurting children. No sign or statement. Tho Tabby makes a great point about life in the gulag that is lefty Madison the locals have zero sense of humor.
