I watched a YouTube video and thought I could do it. But I ended up breaking a spring while putting it back together. Some things should be left to professionals. Ever break something trying to be handy?

@Rogue_soldier ... wish I had a $1 for every time I broke something. I would have enough to pay a pro to do it in the first place! It has been something I have learned over all of these years. There are things I am good at and physically able to do and other things where I need to pay someone else. Had an issue with my Equalizer a bit ago. Took it to the gunsmith at the range I go to (Wisconsin Firearm and Training Center) in Brookfield) and he had it sorted in no time. Seems the issue was something I was doing wrong with my grip more than anything. A few bucks, a cleaning and it was firing beautifully. Left to my own devices I would still be fooling with the gun.

I'm pretty handy with firearms, but there are just some things that should be left to a professional. Wanted to pillar bed my Remington 700, I have glass bedded and floated barrels on a lot of rifles, but when I read up on pillar bedding. I did not have the proper tools, cost too much to buy them and let someone who does it all the time do it. It was money well spent with terrific results.

I used to do my car/truck maintenance and repair until it got to the point where one needed hundreds if not thousands of dollars in special tools and equipment. Learned that Sam at the little local garage down the street, who couldn't afford the special tools and equipment would take on a project that he had no experience at. He had a cheaper shop rate than the local dealer, but it took him twice as long to do a job that was half butted. I started taking my car to the dealer, they have all the fancy tools, parts handy and people that work on my car on a daily basis. Their shop rate is higher, but they get the job done, correctly and with a warranty in less than half the time. I even take my car there for oil changes these days. I found out that the small shops don't necessarily have the correct oil in stock and dumping in a semi synthetic in a engine that requires full synthetic will void the warranty. Sometimes penny (or nickel these days) wise is sometimes hundreds of dollars foolish.

I sent a small part flying across my garage when I was trying to put the lower receiver back together. After that, I bought the right tools and slowed down. Some things you just have to learn the hard way.

And you just have to pray it doesn't end up under a pile of shovels or something!
