I'm looking for a budget scope for my deer rifle that costs less than $300. I need something that holds zero well and can handle the recoil. Any recommendations based on actual hunting experience would be great.

you don't say what type of gun you're putting it on and what you are hunting or range , short ? long? fields ? woods? ect

so just taking a guess some thing like these 4 might work

some of the older Leupold vari-X II or vari-XIII would work well also

No, I don’t have much experience per say with budget scopes myself, but I’ve heard a lot of folks swear by the Vortex Crossfire II and Primary Arms SLx as great under-$300 options

The Vortex Crossfire II was a great and relatively inexpensive scope. It has been replaced by the new Crossfire HD which has even better glass as well as the parallax moved to a left turret making the adjustment much quicker and easier. Just bought one for a .22 the other day. Absolutely great scope for the money.
