I long ago learned that most of the fancy stuff that they try to sell you is a waste of money. Around here one does not need expensive clothes from 511, Sitka or any of the other places. Even the supposed fishing stuff at Cabelas is overpriced. Come hunting season there is the mandatory Blaze Orange of in my case fluorescent pink stuff. Again way overpriced but required by law. All in all if you wear what works instead of what the manufacturers recommend in general it will only cost 1/3 of what you would spend for the fancy stuff that isn't any better than regular wear. Same goes for boots. They need to fit well, be warm, grip well and be waterproof. There are a lot of boots that can do that for less than $125.
I'm heading up to Winneconne tomorrow for four days of fishing on the Wolf River. If anyone is close by stop in at, The Landing on the Wolf, introduce yourself and I might have my arm twisted to buy you a beer and talk about fishing, hunting and guns in general.
Caught this sturgeon from on the patio next to the saloon three years ago. It was mid April and the weather was freezing cold. Good thing that I brought along my hunting jacket. It was estimated at 48 inches and around 50 pounds. Last year I got a 22 pound channel cat. Always come home with a limit of walleye filets.
