I got a pistol I bought years ago that just sits in the safe. I've shot it maybe three times, I could sell it and put the money toward something I'd actually use. But also what if I regret it? Do you guys keep everything or sell stuff you don't use?

I have rotated my collection many times over. Ones I've decided to be keepers have stuck around. Only a few were missed. There were a few that I have thought that I'll replace someday, but likely not if it hasn't happened already. If it isn't being used I consider it trading material. I have a couple of those right now that I'm evaluating. I have limited space, if I had a dedicated "gun room" it might be different. I have a new toy coming in and I'm currently storing a gun for safe keeping for a family member. Such is life.

Usually there is a reason that a firearm isn't being used and for the most part you have found that there is something about it that you don't like. It's too big, or too small. It doesn't fit my hand. The recoil is too heavy. It's not accurate enough, and the list goes on. If it's not a collectors item, or sometimes even if it is there is no reason to hold on to something that is just taking up space in the gun vault. Trade it in or sell it and get that new rifle or pistol that has caught your eye, put the money in the bank until you find something that you want to buy. A firearm that sits in the gun vaullt does nobody any good, for you it has a bunch of your money tied up in it, its taking up valuable storage space and the list goes on.

My Dad, at one time, never had alot of guns, raising a family and such made it tough. He owned a pre 64 Model 70 Winchester, 264 Magnum, bought new. Things came up and he had to sell it. He regretted it and still does to this day, at 87 years old. Since then he has bought and NEVER sold a gun. I at one time bought, at a good deal then sold to make a little money. I also sold some because I needed the money and thought I'll get another one when I can. Problem was, and one I didnt think of, When I finally got around to getting a replacement they were gone from production. A Savage model BSE 12 ga, 26" bbl, imp/mod, comes to mind. The Northwoods grouse never had a chance when that came to the shoulder. I fortunately, sooner more than later, heeded my Fathers experience and have not sold anything I've acquired since. The money you get for your property has soon vanished, a fine firearm will always be there.
Besides that, I worked with guys that were half my age, all were into hunting and guns. We'd talk and they would bring up a firearm and Id tell them more times than not, Yea, I have one of those". In that case its not what its worth, its that I have one and they dont!
