Dry fire is where most improvement actually happens. Trigger control, grip pressure and presentation can all be refined without burning ammo. Ten focused minutes beats an unfocused range session every time if you’re honest with yourself.

Even just 10 minutes of focused reps sharpens your trigger control and draw like crazy.

One cannot over emphasize dry fire exercises. The benefits to trigger control and sight alignment go without saying. There is however one aspect of dry fire that needs to be addressed and that is grip. It is easy to not grip properly due to the lack of recoil. Semi auto pistols in particular have to be gripped firmly in order to function as well as to keep the firearm from shifting in your hand under recoil. Make sure that when dry firing that you especially concentrate on a firm grip,

In addition to the grip, trigger control and sight alignment dry fire is a good way to get used to shooting with your weak hand and eye and if your firearm has a thumb safety be sure to practice and get into the habit of as you are bringing the pistol up clicking off the safety. If you don't practice this simple thing, then perhaps when push comes to shove you forget to thumb off the safety you will be squeezing the trigger to no avail when seconds count.

Lastly, in addition to trigger control, sight alignment and grip, practice your draw and fire while dry firing. Practice wearing the different levels of clothing you normally wear. Ladies if you wear high heels practice draw and fire wearing the shoes you normally wear. You will probably find that block or wedge heels are much more stable than stilettos.

If you have an optic on your handgun, practice not only bringing the pistol up, practice the muscle memory needed so that when you bring the pistol up the red or green dot is visible. In an emergency is not when to have to search for the dot.

Practice makes perfect.
