Got out on a fresh stretch of water in central Wisconsin last weekend, targeting some bass. The weather was decent, a little cloudy but warm enough for a good day. Tried out a couple of different lures — a chatterbait and some plastic worms. The bite was hit or miss; I had a few strikes but only managed to land one decent 2-pounder. My buddy got skunked, which was hilarious since he swears he’s the bass whisperer. Water was pretty clear, but not sure what their deal was. Anyone else having better luck this year? Let's hear about your trips!

I had an outing on a new lake nearby. I tried spinnerbaits and soft plastics, landed a few small bass around 1–2 pounds, but it was mostly hit-or-miss

Hey Pedro, I am not aware of any new lakes here in Wisconsin. The swimming pool in my back yard does not qualify as a lake. How about letting us know what the name of the lake is and what you were trying to catch? Personally the only thing I fish for anymore are Walleyes, Musky and Northern Pike on the Madison chain of lakes and Wolf River. What do you fish for?

I haven't been fishing in soooo long. I mainly catch and release unless someone else is willing to take them. Last time out (years ago) I was fishing for carp off a riverbank. I like that they are strong fighters. Growing up we had neighbors that would smoke them. Smoked fish is my preferred way to have them served up. My dad would have just as soon chopped them up and used them for fertilizer in the garden. Carp are good eating but boney. For eating I like lake superior (cold water) fish better than fish from warm water lakes. With Grandkids nearby now I'm going to have to bring them out as they get old enough. Plenty of rivers close by... Not sure of how edible they are from these waters though.

It's actually Lake Mendota, it is new to me..not brand new. I was targeting largemouth bass mainly. Your Madison chain spots sound good for walleye, I might have to try those northern pike sometime

I stay off of Mendota, too many wild people speeding around even on weekdays. I pretty much stick to Monona and mostly Walleye and Musky. Have caught quite a few Musky out on Monona, largest 40 inches so it went back into the water. The water out by Olbrich park is good for Walleye late afternoon and evenings. Most of the Musky I've caught have been about 300 yards of Olbrich, panfish in Monona Bay.
