Groups are worse at 100 than 50 yards

This doesn't make sense right? My 50 yard groups are tight but 100 yard groups open up way more than they should. What's causing this?

I think a little more info is needed for any one to even try and answer your question
rifle ? pistol ? revolver? open sights ? peep ? reddot ? scope ? shooting bench , sand bags or other rest , off hand ect ... new gun old beat up gun or some where in between ect

you should set up for 100 yard groups then move to 50
Rj is correct way more intell on what you are using and if handloading what steps are being taken there
there are a lot of variables that go into small groups

As others have mentioned, more information would be nice. Groups getting larger at longer distances is not something new or unusual, matter of a fact it is a well known fact of life. A one inch group at 100 yards will be a two inch group at 200 yards and a three inch group at three hundred yards and it goes on and one. It's simple grade school geometry. So with that in mind what are your actual concerns?

Going against the mathematics of group size as you go further out. Try shooting a group at 200 yds. There are many accounts of 100yd groups not being conducive to the accuracy potential of the rifle/ pistol / revolver / wheelie bow / crossbow / mortar / cannon or whatever it is you're shooting.
Disregard this if your shooting irons as that is where group size will open owing to the nature of the sighting equipment where the human factor is the limiting factor.
