I hear so much about ticks and Lyme disease, but how bad is it really in our area? Are there specific spots we should avoid when hiking?

My wife and I have had Lyme's. Catch it quick and not much. Antibiotics clear it pretty quick. Bullseye rash and itch, then it will go away. Ignore it and there can be more problematic symptoms.
Ticks are still the worst. Opossums eat hundreds of them per day.

Also had the lymes, my bulls eye did not show up for a week or so. it appeared slow and everyone thought it was ring worm. would not wish it on anyone. Had a bad head ache in the back of my head, knees hurt and it did mess with my head. I could not find the urgent care clinic I was going to even though I had been there many times.
A few years later I felt something on my back, I put my finger over it and asked the wife to take a look. I pulled my shirt up and with my finger still over what I felt the wife says oh no you have a bulls eye. I said how do you know I still have my finger over it, I removed my finger and there was a tick. went to the urgent care and they have a pill you can take if its taken within 72 hours. We had set deer blinds 3 days before, 72 hrs. I rushed to get the pill took it and never got the lymes.

besides lymes their are several other nasties transimitted. the Medical profession has been extremely slow to catch up to this . In The 80's they were mostly unaware by the 90's they were starting to step up. Now because it is a national threat they are finally getting their act together. Heavy metal poisoning is another area they are slow on. Problem in both areas is the testing a lot of inconclusive results.
