What are you doing this weekend?

Saturday means a rifle match and after that, I’m probably talking myself into getting some reloading done maybe even both if I can find the motivation.

Lucky you!!! LOL, some of us work weekend nights and cannot sleep while shooting on the range, nor the ability to stay alert and awake while reloading. Conversely while you are slaving away during the week, I am free to head to the range, at least when it's not raining, during the week when the ranges are not crowded. I do, however, miss not shooting competitively. Where are you shooting and what is the course of fire?

Heading down to Burlington in a couple of hours to pick up my Tisas 1911 38 Super. I had adjustable sights put on it at America's Gunsmith Shop. I did this to shoot at different ranges with a variety of ammo. Also allows switching between 38 Super and 9MM.

I’ve been dodging the mess on my reloading bench for three weeks now. After that, if the weather holds, I’ll zero in a new scope. Neither is exciting for me but they both need to get done.

My weekends are usually spent working nights at the local hotel. The few hours I get to have to myself from the time I get home until I have to get to sleep are usually taken by mundane things that simply need to be attended to no matter what day of the week it is. Just got done mowing half my lawn, the other half will happen tomorrow. Did notice that my Cherry tree had a lot of ripe cherries, so picked a bunch of ripe ones. Snack at work tonight.

On another note, finally got my Tisas back from the gunsmith with a new Bomar rear sight on it. They did a nice job but the price was a bit of a YIKES!. Hope to get to take it out sometime next week to sight it in and do some 25 and 50 yard shooting.

Everyone have a great weekend. According to the weather guessers it's supposed to be nice until Sunday afternoon at least here in Cabbage Patch.

what Gun Smith ? local ? did you add a Bomar adjustable sight to a gun that already had a adjustable sight or did you have a slide milled for one ?

thanks

The machine work was done by America's Gunsmith Shop in Burlington. The Bomar replaced a fixed sight that was only adjustable for windage by doing the old brass pin punch and hammer which I did the day I sighted it in resting the slide on a bag of lead shot for support and tapping the sight to the right. Now the Tisas has a Bomar adjustable just like my Gold Cup National Match. More to come as I shoot some more 38 Super at 100 yards. Muzzle velocities are between 1260 and 1420 depending on what ammo is used. Currently shooting factory ammo, have to try loading some up. Sierra manual has loads going up to 1700 FPS, but not sure if I need velocity that high. Would be nice to get it shooting around 1500 FPS, 357 Magnum performance out of a semi auto that is functioning perfectly.

Thanks for the info , are you happy with the work ?

interesting 1500 would be moving right along for a auto

As for America's Gunsmith Shop, very happy with their work. I had them do a pillar bedding job on a Remington 700, 338 Win Mag and put a target style brake on it. They did a really great job. They did some restorative work on the first shotgun my dad gave me when I was 12, Again super work, and now the Tisas rear sight which is fantastic. Prices are reasonable and work is pristine.

I was getting 1430 fps out of some Aguila +P ammo, so 1500 is not much of a stretch. The key to accuracy is a constant velocity. Tried some Match Grade 38 special in my Model 19 and had a velocity spread of over 100 FPS, and you can imagine what the group looked like. My handloads only vary between 10 and 30 FPS, much more accurate. The Garmin reveals a lot of accuracy and grouping issues. Glad I got it.
